Sunday / January 13, 2013 SCT San Lorenzo Gym FIRST GAME SCT BATCH 96 avenged their first loss against SCT Batch 98 by posting an intense and grouchy 105 to 94 win, putting them in second place behind SCT Batch 99. It will be remembered that both teams have fought an intense filled game last November 16, 2012 that saw SCT Batch 98 winning by a 3-point margin through the gutsy and miraculous shot of Ding “Mr. Clutch” Reyes with a second remaining. This game is an absolute revenge for the 96ers as they managed to hold-off the ever indomitable and resilient SCT Batch 98 Team. The game was marred by some intense and heated verbal tussles between both teams to the dismay of our officials but both teams were pacified anyway in the end game. Statistical leader BOK MANOSCA almost singlehandedly carried his team and topscored anew for SCT Batch 96 with another career high and MVP like performance of 50 big big points, ably supported by Frederick Chavez with 15 and Benjo Albarillo with 9 points. Top scorers for SCT Batch 98 were Gilbert Lorenzo with 21 points, Pahjiong Avelino with 20, Dominic Condino with 16 and Ding Reyes with 9. SECOND GAME SCT Batch 99 brutally annihilated SCT Batch 95; Score: 97-59 This is an all intense filled Sunday as SCT Batch 99 beats SCT Batch 95 anew with their run-and-gun type of play in the continuation of the SCT-ASUL Basketball League. The undermanned SCT Batch 2001 beats the slumping SCT Batch 2003, 61-56. Though playing undermanned with just 7 players present in the game, SCT Batch 2001 managed to hold on and escaped with a very convincing win over their younger opponent, the troubled SCT Batch 2003. Honest to goodness but leechlike defence was applied by SCT Batch 2001 that proved to be effective as they led by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. But SCT Batch 2003, through the Efforts of Alvin “The Assassin” Edwards, pulled to within 2 points in the dying minutes of the game, but the steady hands and composure of Gian Franco “Mr. Cool” Baluran in the free-throw line kept SCT Batch 2001 at the driver’s seat and managed to escape with a 5 point lead. SCT Batch 2003 absorbed their third straight defeat after winning by 3 straight in the first round. With the loss, they fell to third place in the bracket standing and must win their remaining games in order to stay in contention for the top two teams with a twice-to-beat advantage going in to the bracket semi-finals. VOLLEYBALL Sunday / January 13, 2013 SCT San Lorenzo Gym SCT Batch 98 Girls Volleyball team posted a nerve-wracking and heart-pounding win over league leader SCT Batch 89 Girls Volleyball Team, via a 2-1 set. Though playing undermanned with exactly 6 players on the court, SCT Batch 89 still proved to be a tougher opponent for their younger counterpart as they scarily escaped the first round with a 28-26 score. But SCT Batch 98, with sheer determination, guts and focus in the game, coupled with loud cheers and motivation from their other batchmates who are present in the gym, proved to be too much for the exhausted and worn-out SCT Batch 89 as they easily won the succeeding sets, 25-17 in the second and 25-22 in the third set. SCT Batch 98 Girls Volleyball Team is now up 2-3 in the win-loss column behind SCT Batch 99 and revived their hope for the finals seat as SCT Batch 89 absorbed their very first loss of the season and lost their chance for the twice to beat advantage going into the finals.
