Saturday / February 23, 2013 SCT San Lorenzo Gym VOLLEYBALL GAME SCT BATCH 89 bagged the first ever SCT-ASUL Women’s Volleyball Championship Title by trouncing their younger foe, the SCT BATCH 99, in a 5-set match… 3 sets to 1. It was indeed an intense filled evening as we witnessed the battle between two of the best alumni volleyball teams this year, having filled the SCT Gym with a barrage of noise, excitements and nerve wracking plays. A tightly contested match from the start, SCT BATCH 89 pulled-off a jaw dropping win in the first set, 25-22 as they displayed an aura of relief and geared-up for the second set. But the ever relentless and flamboyant 99ers proved to be a no non-sense team as they retaliated with a ferocious win in the second set, 25-23, proving their never say die spirit. The third set went on, with both teams showing extreme desires to grab the first ever SCT-ASUL Women’s Volleyball crown, battled-it-out and showed no mercy against each other. We have seen great spike plays, slamming, diving over the ball and jumping to the delight of the crowd as the third set indisputably went to the valiant ladies of SCT BATCH 89, score 25-17. Then came the fourth set. The pressure is on SCT BATCH 99 girls as they need to win this set for them to stay alive and go for the rubber match fifth set. But the ever dauntless, bold and determined 89ers, led by their Team Captain Teresa Hernia, MVP stand-out Anna Dadia Gatapia and sports buff Hershey Jaranilla, went for the juggernaut as they viciously crushed the 99ers to the tune of 25-17, en route to grabbing the very first SCT-ASUL Women’s Volleyball crown. Congratulations to the magnificent ladies of SCT BATCH 89!!! Great team work…. BASKETBALL GAME SCT BATCH 99 captured the BRACKET C DIVISION Title by slaughtering the equally determined SCT BATCH 98. Score: 77-61. As expected, an intense filled game had transpired between the top two teams in BRACKET C as we have witnessed a lot of body banging, stumbling on the floor, ball hogging and verbal tussles. As one of the most anticipated match-ups in the present SCT Alumni League, the two batches have displayed gallantry, fearlessness and boldness in running after that prestigious SCT-ASUL championship crown. A closed fight from the start until the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter, the game was highlighted by 11 deadlocks and a couple of technical fouls, bringing excitement and splendour to the ballgame. As expected, the one two punch of SCT BATCH 99, Anthony “The Executioner” Sta. Ana and Ramir “Supafly” Gabutina, delivered anew for their team as they ferociously attacked the basket, demonstrated some greatly executed passes and displayed fine and pleasant jumpshots, bugging the score book with 30 points for Sta. Ana and 20 for Gabutina. The 99ers led by as much as 12 points in the first half and appeared to be taking the game lightly against their opponent, but the ever brave and intrepid squad of SCT BATCH 98 proved to be like a pain of having a nine-inch nail in their ass, when the 98ers pulled to within one point and even took the lead early in the third quarter. But the fourth quarter really belongs to SCT BATCH 99, as they pulled away, behind the barrage of shooting of Sta. Ana & Gabutina, late in the fourth quarter for that 77-61 lead and being crowned as the BRACKET C Champion. Avelino, Librojo, Lorenzo and Reyes of SCT BATCH 98 tried everything to turn their fate around, but SCT BATCH 99 is too much for them. Nonetheless, it was a great effort from the team and SCT BATCH 98 proved to be one of the deadliest teams in the current league. Congratulations SCT BATCH 99! See you in the cross-over semi-finals versus the champion in Bracket D! |
